Moving to a new country is a big step, and we want this to be a home where you can feel safe, comfortable, and at ease from your first day in Seoul. 🇺🇸 ENGLISH-SPEAKING HOST I lived in the United States for about 15 years and speak fluent English. If you'd like to practice Korean and make local friends, you'll find housemates here who are happy to help. 🍳 WHAT YOU SHARE The kitchen, dining area, and one bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, dishes, and basic cooking utensils. There is a large refrigerator, a microwave, a dining table for four, a washing machine, and a compact dryer — so you are not hanging laundry around your room during the summer rains. 💰 ONE MONTHLY PAYMENT Your monthly payment covers rent, electricity, water, gas, and high-speed Wi-Fi. There is no separate management fee, no meter readings, and no end-of-month settlement. Additional charges would apply only in the case of unusually high usage, such as running the air conditioner around the clock through the summer. 🧹 CLEANING The kitchen, dining area, and bathroom are cleaned once a month. I take care of it myself — it's not a separate charge. Your own room is yours to keep as you like. A one-time move-out cleaning fee applies at the end of your stay, so the next resident starts fresh — just as you will. 🛁 BEDDING Bedding is not included. Since this is not a serviced accommodation, I cannot provide bedding directly, but I can help you arrange the purchase in advance so it is ready for your move-in. 🔒 SAFETY • Security bars on the living room windows, the kitchen, utility room, and bathroom, and on Room 1 (the single room nearest the entrance) — every window that actually needs one • Digital door lock • 24/7 CCTV at the entrance • Fire extinguisher in the shared area 📋 GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK I would rather you know these things now than be surprised after you arrive. • Some of our photos were taken at night, which can make the home look darker — or even half-underground — than it really is. It isn't. This is a genuine ground-floor unit with good daylight. • The home is on the ground floor. There are 8 steps up from the building's entrance to the front door — not a basement, just a short rise from street level. • Bedroom windows have frosted glass for privacy. They let light in, but there is no view out. • One bathroom is shared by up to four residents. • This is a low-rise residential building with no elevator. The home itself is on the ground floor, so this does not affect daily life. Not sure how long you'll stay? Start with one semester — you can extend later. Staying six months or longer? I would much rather hear about it early. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD The house is on Bomun-ro 22-gil, in a residential part of Anam-dong that grew up around Korea University. Everything around us is housing — no bars, no nightlife. 🤫 A GENUINELY QUIET BUILDING Most of our neighbours in this building are older Korean residents who have lived here for years, and the owner of the building lives upstairs on the third floor. It makes for a quiet home. No late-night noise, no party building. If you came here to study, that matters more than you might expect. It also means there is always an adult in the building. You are never the only person here at night. 🚶 WALKING HOME AFTER DARK I would rather be straight with you than oversell this. Our lane is not brightly lit, but it is not dark either. Most of the walk from the station follows the main road along Seongbukcheon stream, which is well lit and has people on it into the evening. The last stretch is a quiet residential lane with houses on both sides. 🛒 EVERYTHING CLOSE BY • Two convenience stores, CU and GS25 — 3 & 7 minutes • Hanaro Home Mart for groceries and fresh produce — 5 minutes • A 24-hour self-service laundromat — 8 minutes • Olive Young, McDonald's, cafes, and the Korea University restaurant strip — 15 minutes • Gyms and a pilates studio nearby 🏥 A CLINIC BUILDING NEARBY There is a medical building a short walk away with internal medicine, ENT, orthopaedics, and paediatrics all in one place. It is the kind of thing you do not think about until you need it, and it matters more when you are far from home. If you ever need to see a doctor and are not sure how it works here, message me and I will help you sort it out. 🌿 SEONGBUKCHEON STREAM A short walk from the house, Seongbukcheon stream has walking and running paths along both sides, lined with trees. People jog there year-round, and it is a good place to clear your head between study sessions. GETTING AROUND 🎓 PRIME UNIVERSITY LOCATION IN SEOUL Stay at the heart of Seoul's major university district, with easy access to top campuses beyond Korea University. Some of our residents have come from other schools — the French students who lived in this exact room were commuting to Duksung Women's University, and we've had inquiries from Sungkyunkwan University exchange students too. 🚶 On foot: • Korea University (College of Engineering / Med Center) — 7 min • Korea University (Main Campus) — 10 to 15 min, depending on which building you need • Sungshin Women's University — 17 min 🚌 Direct public transit (15–30 min): • Kyung Hee University, HUFS, University of Seoul (UOS) — 20 to 25 min, direct bus #273 from a stop 3 min away • Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU, Hyehwa Campus) — 21 to 30 min, direct bus #273 or #272 • Hansung University — 15 to 20 min by bus • Dongduk Women's University — 27 to 30 min, Line 6 via Bomun Station, no transfer • Duksung Women's University — 33 min, Ui-Sinseol Light Rail via Bomun Station, no transfer Times above are estimated from route maps and Naver Map, not a stopwatch — tell me your class schedule and I'll help you confirm the exact route before you book. 🚇 Subway stations nearby: • Bomun Station (Line 6 / Ui-Sinseol Line) — about 7 minutes • Anam Station (Line 6) — about 13 minutes Line 6 and the Ui-Sinseol Line both run from Bomun Station, which makes it easy to reach Dongdaemun, Myeongdong, and the rest of central Seoul without transferring more than once. By bus Two bus stops are within a few minutes of the house: • Anam-dong Community Service Center (안암동주민센터) — 3-min walk — routes 201, 2115, 1112 • Bomun-dong Catholic Church (보문동성당) — 6-min walk Buses #273 and #272 (the ones that reach SKKU, Kyung Hee, HUFS, UOS, and Hansung above) can be caught from these stops as well. 🛫 GETTING HERE FROM INCHEON AIRPORT About 1 hour 45 minutes, around 5,450 KRW, with only one transfer the whole way. 1. From Incheon Airport Terminal 1 or 2, take the Airport Railroad (AREX) toward Seoul Station. 2. Get off at Gongdeok Station and transfer to Line 6. 3. Stay on Line 6 until Bomun Station. 4. From Bomun Station, the house is a short walk. One transfer matters when you are carrying two suitcases after a long flight, and it costs a fraction of an airport taxi.
